These gold-plated pewter jewels set with synthetic rubies were specially made for a reconstruction of the ensemble worn by Catherine Parr in her portrait of 1545, attributed to Master John, at the National Portrait Gallery, London (NPG 4451, previously identified as Lady Jane Grey).
These jewels come in a set of 18 to decorate the upper billiment for a French hood. Each jewel measures approximately 1in (2.5cm) square. They are supplied loose so that they may be sewn directly to a headdress or billiment foundation (see our pattern for a Tudor woman's French hood for more information on how to make one).
In the photo of a finished French hood, we have placed these jewels along the top billiment and complemented them with our large red zirconia ouches and Czech glass pearls.
Please note, the photo of a fully constructed French hood is provided simply to show how the jewels might be used and to give a sense of scale. No finished headdress is included as part of this listing.
