We're thrilled to offer a variety of reproduction 16th century style dress jewels or ‘ouches’ as they were known. Ouches were worn as borders or 'squares' at the neckline of elite Tudor ladies' gowns, on foresleeves between puffs or 'pullings out', as billiments to French hoods and edges to early Tudor style bonnets (later called 'gable hoods'). They can also be worn as brooches in caps or other garments both singly and in multiple numbers. Excellent for upper class impressions like nobility and royalty.

This design is based on the ouches featured in the painting Elizabeth I when a Princess (circa 1546), cautiously attributed to William Scrots (Royal Collection Trust, RCIN 404444). They are cast in lead-free pewter, gold plated and set with imitation gemstones. There are two cast loops on the back to enable the jewels to be sewn to fabric (see photos and video).

The jewels are available in two sizes and three popular Tudor colours of 'gemstones' (actually zirconia or glass).

This listing is for one ouch.
