Unbleached/natural 16 INCH WIDE paste buckram - fabric sold by the half yard
Unbleached/natural 16 INCH WIDE paste buckram - fabric sold by the half yard
• 100% jute
• unbleached/natural
• 16in (40.5cm) wide
This listing is for sized buckram which we use to represent the stiffened material supplied by 'paste wives' in the 16th century. This was used for the foundations of stiffened headdresses such as French hoods and bonnets and frontlets (later referred to as 'gable hoods'), and as interlinings for 'upper bodies', the precursor of the corset.
We recommend it, teamed with our linen canvas, for interlining kirtle and petticoat bodices to provide shape and support.
This buckram is a new version of the fabric previously supplied by The Tudor Tailor.
PLEASE NOTE, this fabric is 16 inches (45cm) wide and sold by the half yard. To order the exact amount required simply select multiple quantities before adding it to your cart. For example, if you need 3½ yards, select 7 in the 'quantity' box and we'll cut the 3½ yards as one continuous length of cloth.
We offer a range of natural fabrics to meet the making needs of the discerning costume maker from basic calico (US muslin) for toiles to quality linens for making linings and underwear. We also offer a variety of woollen fabrics appropriate for Tudor reconstructions. Please visit our fabric section to see our complete range.

This arrived really quickly and is exactly what I need for stiffening headdresses etc. Reliable quality and excellent service as always from The Tudor Tailor.
I tried to substitute buckram with a number of things - but it's really quite different to have the authentic material. Great quality!
Totally what I wished for.
great quality, as described by the Tudor Tailor
Dispatched quickly and as described. Hoped it would be a bit stiffer though probably all that’s available now.
