Pattern for Tudor & Elizabethan lady's Spanish farthingale & pad
• Made exclusively by The Tudor Tailor
Sewing pattern for a Spanish style conical farthingale of the style worn by Tudor and Elizabethan ladies from the mid-16th to early-17th centuries, including members of Henry VIII's, Mary I's and Elizabeth I's royal courts. Also includes a pattern for the supporting pad worn underneath. With full instructions for choosing materials, sizing and constructing garments - perfect for reenactors.
Now printed on a sturdy, yet lightweight paper, postage costs have been reduced from the previous bulky pack.
Please note, this farthingale is designed to be worn over a smock. Optionally, it can be also be worn with separate bodies (corsets or stays). If so, the farthingale should be fitted on the wearer over the bodies. This farthingale is also intended to be worn under a well structured kirtle and lady's gown, like the mid-16th century Henrician lady's gown. For a later 16th century silhouette, the farthingale can also be worn under the Elizabethan lady's fitted English gown. Patterns for these garments are not included with the farthingale pattern but are available to be purchased separately.
Highly researched and based on documentary descriptions, extant examples and paintings. See the listing images for specific sources.
