These hooks and eyes are hand made in the United Kingdom and are fashioned from brass wire, as was common in the 16th century. They are perfect for fastening coats, kirtle or petticoat bodies, doublets, women's waistcoats, partlets and children's clothes.
The are available in 4 different sizes:
No 2 - 0.8mm gauge wire, hook length = 5⁄16in (8mm), good for lightweight linen
No 3 - 0.9mm gauge wire, hook length = 3⁄8in (10mm), good for children's clothes and delicate items
No 4 – 1.1mm gauge wire, hook length = ½in (12mm), good for bodices, waistcoats, wrist fastenings etc.
No 5 – 1.5mm gauge wire, hook length = 5⁄8in (17mm), good for heavier coats and gowns
The hooks and eyes are sold in sets of 6 pairs, packed in glassine bags.
