Finished garment - Violet 'changeable' silk taffeta French gown as featured in The Typical Tudor

Tudor style French gown made for The Typical Tudor book and suitable for a middling or gentle woman from 1545 to the 1570s

Made of violet 'changeable' (or shot) silk taffeta with wool satin linings to the very large sleeves. The skirt is lined with black linen and the body with unbleached linen. All finishing is by hand and there is no visible machine stitching on the inside or outside. The bodies fasten at the front through handworked eyelets and a separate placard, or stomacher pins over the top. The gown on the model is worn over a side-lacing kirtle which is not included. 

Worn only for a photoshoot and a small number of indoor events the gown is in excellent condition. The only damage is on the tops of each shoulder which have small areas of darning from when the gown was once hung on an un-padded hanger - see last two photos.

Kirtle, French hood and white and red puffed 'Almain' undersleeves are not included.

Measurements:

Waist 27in-30in (68.5cm-76cm) - can be laced with a 2in-3in gap

Bust 33in-36in (84cm-91.5cm) - can be laced with a 2in-3in gap

Skirt length from waist to hem 43in (109cm) with train at back

Made for a 5' 5" tall woman
