This lettice cap was made and photographed for The Typical Tudor but sadly didn't make the final cut as there was not enough space. The unusual name for this cosy style of headwear comes from the short, white fur which was the winter coat of a weasel, and similar to ermine. This reconstruction is made from high-quality faux fu and lined with brushed cotton 'fustian'. The shape of this particular lettice cap (also known as a lettice bonnet) is inspired by images of merchant level women such as Dorcas Egleton who is depicted on a silver medal created in 1562 for her and her husband, now in the British Museum and a drawing created by Lucas De Heere (1573-75 of three London citizens and a farmer, now in the British Library.

We also offer just the pattern for the standard shaped lettice cap.
